Representing Dog Owners
Our charitable objective outlines our role in education and developing dog owners and the general public. Whilst lobbying is not expressly a core activity, it is an important role the trust plays. We can only develop and educate dog owners, breeders and the public if legislation and government create an environment where this is possible and an environment where responsible dog owners and dog breeders are not unfairly penalised, due to the irresponsible actions of a minority. We have seen changes in legislation under the previous government which have directly affected dog owners and breeders, including but not limited to; the Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act and ban on docking of customarily docked breeds. With a change of national government, and with increased media coverage of dangerous dogs and the anti-dog lobby, it has never been more important that the Central Bedfordshire Canine Trust plays an active role in representing dog owners. The trust has key links with local authorities, and in the next year it is keen to build upon these relationships and increase awareness of the trust amongst authority officials and local Members Of Parliament. The trust was involved in representing dog owners on the local Green Infrastructure Plan.
