Central Bedfordshire Canine Trust

RENEW NOW!! DON’T MISS OUT ON A PLACE!!

As you may be aware the last week of your current course term is Sunday 25th May 2014. Those of you that have passed the current level will receive your certificates on the last week.  We hope you will continue your dogs training. The next Course Term starts on Sunday 1st June 2014 for your new class. Bookings for the next course term are now open online.

IMPORTANT - We no longer issue paper renewal forms, if you wish to continue your dogs training and want a place on the next course, YOU MUST ENROL ONLINE USING ONLINE BOOKING SYSTEM at www.centralbedfordshirecaninetrust.com !

VERY IMPORTANT
As you will all know this year due to the bad weather at the start of the year, the course terms have been disrupted. This is further disrupted due to instructor holidays scheduled for June/July. For this reason the next course term will run for a total of eleven training weeks.

Three of these weeks will take place, but we will then be closed for four consecutive weeks. There is no agility classes on the following dates: 22nd June, 29th June, 6th July, 13th July.

We will reopen and the remaining eight weeks will run consecutively from Sunday 20th July 2014

I am sure all members will appreciate that the cancelled classes at the start of the year, not only had an effect on the course terms, but also on the trusts income. As a charity the trust charges the lowest possible price to break even. Unfortunately however even when classes are cancelled costs are still incurred by the trust. This has unfortunately meant that as from the new course term the course fee will rise to £50. Unfortunately this increase was unavoidable. However for the next course term it will cover eleven training weeks instead of the normal eight.

We look forward to welcoming you and your dog back for the next course term. If for any reason you are unable to attend the next course or if you have decided not to continue your dogs training or you require any further information or if you have any questions; then please do not hesitate to contact us by email at info@centralbedfordshirecaninetrust.com . You can also speak to your class instructor.

PLEASE NOTE:

YOU MUST ENROL ONLINE IN ADVANCED AND THE COURSE FEE MUST BE PAID AT LEAST ONE WEEK BEFORE BOOKINGS CLOSE ON 28th May 2014.

All Enrolments Must Be Done Online. We can no longer take course bookings or course payments by any other method. Bookings for the next course will automatically close online at midnight on
Wednesday 28th May 2014. Anybody just turning up to the next course without having booked will be turned away.

VERY IMPORTANT - CANINE SPORTS FACULTY CLOSED UNTIL SUNDAY 6th April 2014

Very Important Update – Canine Sports Faculty (Agility & Flyball Classes)

UPDATE 22nd March: A further inspection of the field today has proven that it is still not quite ready to be used as is not fully dried out. This coupled with the fact we never have Agility/Flyball training on Mothering Sunday (next week) means we have postponed agility and flyball classes restarting until 6th April 2014.

As members registered on the current term of Agility & Flyball classes at our Kensworth Canine Sports Faculty will know; the weather at the start of this year has led to the cancellation of Sunday training classes since the start of the year.

The recent unprecedented bad weather has completely saturated the training field over the last few weeks and the brief days of sunshine have hardly dried out the puddles, let along allow the ground to recover.

As a responsible training provider safety for the dogs and handlers is of paramount importance and over the last few weeks the condition of the ground was such that slips and injury to dogs and our handlers would have been highly likely. Coupled with this we must consider the safety of our instructors and volunteers along with the potential that using the field whilst it is in this condition now, may damage the ground even further and destroy the grass long into the summer months.

I along with trusts board have reviewed the situation carefully. We want to create the best learning environment for you, your dogs and give you the best chance to achieve your certificate and courses in a safe and enjoyable environment.

As so many weeks have been missed out of this course term , the weather forecast remaining bleak and the need to allow the ground to recover to protect it, we feel that this course should for the time being be suspended.

ALL AGILITY & FLYBALL CLASSES WILL BE SUSPENDED UNTIL SUNDAY THE 6th APRIL 2014.

We hope that scheduling this period will help get over the worst of the bad weather and allow the ground to recover ready for use again.  Feedback from members also showed they appreciated early warning of Sunday cancellations etc.

For members registered on the current course you do not have to do anything, simply come along on Sunday 6th APRIL 2014 when the course will start as originally planned for January.

We as a responsible training provider feel this under the circumstances is the best move forward and hope that all members can appreciate that we didn’t take this decision lightly, but we do feel that this is the best and safest option open to us.

We look forward to seeing you on Sunday 23rd March 2014. If you do have any concerns or questions please do not hesitate to contact us.

Warmest Regards

Gary

Head Of Canine Sports, Central Bedfordshire Canine Trust

Trust & Big Lottery Fund Announce New Rally Obedience Facility

20/12/2012

Picture
The Central Bedfordshire Canine Trust together with the National Lottery Big Lottery Fund today announced they are Ready To Rally! with the opening of a new Rally Obedience facility at the trusts Canine Sports Faculty.

The Central Bedfordshire Canine Trust (Reg. Charity 1124683) was the first (and still the only) canine organisation to receive Lottery Funding for a dog related activity, when it opened its Canine Sports Faculty for Agility & Flyball in Kensworth, Bedfordshire, two years ago. Over the last six months the trust has been in private talks with the Big Lottery Fund to expand the funding to include the new Canine Sport of Rally Obedience.

The new facility which will open late January 2013 will be funded by the Big Lottery Fund and will provide training classes for Rally Obedience. For under 18’s, over 65’s and anyone on a low income the classes will be free and for anyone else wanting to take part there will be a minimal fee.

The funding proposal and agreement have been negotiated by the trusts Chief Executive, Gary Gregory and although the amount is currently undisclosed, it is known it will pay for the new training facility, equipment and venue. Gary said today “We are over the moon that the Big Lottery Fund has agreed to fund the new facility. Two years ago we were the first canine organisation to receive lottery funding for Agility and Flyball and we have been able to prove to the Big Lottery Fund that Canine Sports increase community relations, encourage people to get active and promotes a healthy lifestyle.”

As well as providing the training classes in Rally Obedience the overall project it designed to help people of all ages and abilities take part in regular exercise and activities with their dogs, particularly those who are not able to take part in traditional sports. Gary added “Not everyone is a gym bunny, and we have been able to show the Big Lottery Fund that by involving their dogs, we have given people the opportunity to take part in an alternative form of exercise, as well as a motivation for taking part.”

It is understood that the plans were well under way, prior to The Kennel Club formally recognising Rally Obedience and included officials visiting Rally Obedience seminars last summer.

Rally Obedience is a cross between obedience and agility, with the dog and handler working together to perform exercises at signs (stations) along a course set by the judge. It is the latest Canine Sport to be recognised by The Kennel Club and the trust was particularly interested in it, as it was suitable for handlers with disabilities to take part in.

The trust which also organises the Central Bedfordshire Dog Show & Central Bedfordshire Canine Sports Games announced the funding will also help promote these events, responsible dog ownership and in particular will enable the Canine Sports Games to hold Agility, Flyball and Rally Obedience special classes for disabled handlers as well as the extra equipment and facilities (including accessible toilets) required to make the event venue welcoming and accessible to people with additional needs.

The Central Bedfordshire Dog Show in June 2013, will be attended by Her Majesties Lord Lieutenant Of Bedfordshire (who is the Queens Representative). Her Majesties Lord Lieutenant Of Bedfordshire will be accompanied by a party of MP’s, council and local dignitaries who will present a Big Lottery Fund insignia to the trust to celebrate the new funding partnership between the Central Bedfordshire Canine Trust and The Big Lottery Fund.
