Bronze Obedience Course


Aim, Eligibility & Assessment
The course aims to lay down a solid foundation for education and basic obedience training. On successful completion of the course dogs will respond to their handlers, carry out basic commands and the handlers will have an awareness of the responsibilities of dog ownership and canine welfare. The course will consist of between 8 and 10 dogs. The course is not competitive and is relaxed and informal. The course focuses around the progress of a dog and its handler over the period of the course.

The course aims to produce a dog that will walk and behave in a controlled manner on lead, will stay in one position on command, will allow its owner to clean, groom and inspect it, and also to come when called. The course also aims to provide the handlers with a basic knowledge of understanding and training their canine companion. The course is open to all dogs that have completed the Puppy Foundation Course.

Course Contents
  1. Cleanliness & Identification
  2. Collar & Lead (Removing & Applying, Under Control)
  3. Walking On Lead
  4. Control At Door/Gate
  5. Controlled Walk Amongst People & Dogs
  6. Stay On Lead
  7. Grooming (teaching your dog to allow you to groom it)
  8. Examination (teaching your dog to allow someone to examine it)
  9. Attentive Response To Name & Return To Handler (Come When Called)
  10. Socialisation (with unknown dogs & adults)
  11.  Responsibility & Care
In addition your course instructor and Trust staff will be able to give you information and guidance on; basic health problems, health protection for your dog, teething, chewing and daily routine, house training and separation anxiety. 

On Completion
On successful completion of the course (min. 4 attendances required) all dogs will receive a certificate of attendance. On week seven, the instructor will evaluate your dog and those successful handlers and dogs will be awarded the Central Bedfordshire Canine Trust Bronze Certificate and rosette. 

Follow On
For those participants who complete this course, you may progress to a Silver Obedience Training Course. Details will be supplied at the end of the course.

What Do You Need To Bring?
You need to bring you and your dog. You also need to bring a suitable collar and lead (collar must have ID disc). In addition we advise you bring some treats and a pooh bag. Please ensure you wear suitable, safe and flat footwear. Well behaved children and other family members are welcome to attend and watch, although only one actual handler is allowed per dog. Refreshment and toilet facilities are available at the venue, along with free car park. In addition the venue is next to a large park, where you may exercise your dog.

IT IS CRUCIAL THAT YOU PICK UP ANY FOULING CAUSED BY YOUR DOG.

Can I Come And Watch Before Enrolling?
You can certainly come along and meet the team, prior to enrolling, You can come along any Wednesday to meet us and ask questions. It is normally not advisable to bring your dog the first night you come and watch, however you can if you wish.

Course Fees
The cost of the Bronze Course for existing members is £50 which includes all fees.


Course fees are non refundable, unless the course is cancelled.
